AAI GEARED TO ADVANCE AFRICA’S ADAPTATION FINANCE INTERESTS AS GCF BOARD CONVENES FOR ITS 43rd MEETING
Songdo, South Korea, Thursday, 23rd October, 2025
The Forty-third Meeting of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Board (B.43) will be held from 27 to 30 October 2025 in Songdo, Incheon, Republic of Korea. The meeting will bring together Board members, alternate members, advisers, and observers to advance key decisions on climate finance to support developing countries.
The meeting agenda includes the adoption of the 2026–2028 work programme and administrative budget, consideration of new funding and accreditation proposals, and updates on the status of GCF resources, project pipeline, and portfolio performance.
In addition, the Co-Chairs envisaged to present a proposal for a Board training programme, while committees and panels will report on matters such as the performance review of the independent Technical Advisory Panel and the selection of the Head of the Independent Integrity Unit.
A key discussion point will be the Fund’s regional presence, reflecting growing emphasis on strengthening engagement and delivery capacity across developing countries.
Decisions taken during this meeting are expected to shape the GCF’s operational and strategic direction for the next funding cycle, reinforcing its central role in supporting climate-resilient, low-emission development worldwide.
And the Africa Adaptation Initiative (AAI), which works to support African countries in their efforts to access GCF funding for adaptation projects through capacity building and readiness programmes, will be actively participating in the board meeting.
As mandated by African Heads of States to strengthen collaboration on adaptation across the continent through high-level Pan-African and regional dialogues, adaptation action on the ground, and addressing the adaptation financing gap, AAI supports African countries navigate the fund's requirements to access climate finance, particularly for adaptation projects and programmes.
AAI Coordinator, Ambassador Seyni Nafo, who is also GCF Co-Chair is looking forward to kick-start activities by chairing the developing countries constituency meeting, focusing on developing country priorities in view of growing climate financial needs, particularly for adaptation action.
“The GCF has more than 150 entities approved for accreditation and 100 of these are based or operate in Africa. But when you look at the amount of money mobilized, the international accredited entities representing 35% of the entities, have mobilized 85% of the resources, two to three times more money than the combined 100 entities in developing countries. This is where we have home work as a developing constituency; we need to continue supporting capacity building efforts. This is a long-standing issue that we need to solve. We all have a collective responsibility to redefine our capacity narrative,” said Ambassador Nafo, ahead of the Board meeting.
