Aug 7, 2025
Dar-es-Salaam, Thursday, 7th August, 2025 – The Africa Adaptation Initiative (AAI) has re-affirmed its commitment to continue offering technical and financial support to the African Group of Negotiators on Climate Change (AGN) as initially mandated by African Heads of State.
Speaking during the opening session of the 2nd African Group of Negotiators on Climate change (AGN) Strategic Meeting in Dar-es-Salaam, (7-9 August, 2025), AAI technical Advisor Kulthoum Omari Motsumi said AAI remains committed to its mandate of supporting the AGN for Africa’s voice to remain strong and united in the climate negotiations and other strategic processes.
And AGN Chair, Dr. Richard Muyungi emphasised the importance of African unity for the continent to get what it deserves from the climate processes. In the context of the group’s 30th anniversary this year, Dr. Muyungi paid glowing tribute to African organisations and other partners for the unwavering support to the AGN over the years.
“It is important for us to remain united, hence the theme for this meeting is ‘Africa is United’,” said Dr.Muyungi. “Our strength lies in our unity. As we gather to discuss both administrative and operative matters ahead of COP30, not forgetting a landmark achievement of speaking with one voice for the last 30 years, we stand and salute African institutions such as the Africa Adaptation Initiative (AAI) who continue to believe in the power of African unity and actively support the AGN technically and financially. As Chair, Tanzania is geared to keep this unity of purpose for the benefit of Africa.”
The 2nd AGN Strategic Meeting organized under Tanzania's leadership, was officially graced by Prof. Peter Msoffe, the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of State, Vice President’s Office Union and Environment.
The meeting is focusing on both administrative and operative issues as the group looks at the guidance from the 20th Session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN-20), as well as preparing for the upcoming 2nd Africa Climate Summit scheduled for September 8-10, 2025, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
