AAI VISITS AN INNOVATIVE SUSTAINABLE FARM IN ZANZIBAR
During his recent visit to Zanzibar, Ambassador Seyni Nafo toured the innovative Aatif Aquaponics Limited farm – a local enterprise revolutionizing Tanzania's agricultural sector.
Why this matters:
- The farm uses hydro/aquaponics technology
- Promotes food security through sustainable local production
- Reduces the need for imported produce
Beyond just farming, Aatif Aquaponics:
- Installs custom systems for other farmers
- Produces specialized fertilizers and supplements
- Partners with small-scale farmers for processing
- Provides training and skills development for local communities
This initiative perfectly aligns with our Africa Adaptation Initiative's commitment to building knowledge, capacity, and local ownership. It's exactly the kind of African-led solution we champion – addressing food security while minimizing environmental impact and promoting long term viability.
For context, Aatif Aquaponics Limited submitted a proposal to be supported by the AAI’s Food Security Accelerator Programme. A proposal that is currently under review for a potential commitment by the end of 2025.
The Food Security Accelerator: FSA is strategically designed to invest in climate-adaptive food system solutions, with a particular emphasis on nature-positive, adaptation-centric businesses in Africa's emerging and frontier markets. Helping farmers adopt climate-smart practices that increase yields despite changing weather patterns.
