Chad hosted the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Executive Board for the first time in its history and in Central Africa.
This official visit marks a major step in strengthening cooperation between Chad and one of the world's leading financial mechanisms dedicated to combating climate change.
Following three days of discussions with authorities and field visits, the GCF announced: $100 million in short-term investments for Chad; and the upcoming accreditation of the Ministry of Finance for direct access to funding (a first in Central Africa).
Key Points of the Joint Communiqué Between the Chadian Government and the Green Climate Fund
Following a three-day working visit, the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund, Dr. Mafalda Duarte, and the Minister of the Environment, Mr. Hassan Bakhit Djamous, signed a joint communiqué on Thursday expressing the two parties' commitment to continuing their collaboration in mobilizing climate finance.
Here are the key points:
Strengthening Commitments: The Executive Director reiterated the GCF's commitment to supporting Chad and commended the Chadian government's political will and efforts in combating climate change.
Modalities for Direct Access by National Institutions: Submission of a proposal by the Ministry of Forestry, Water, Fisheries and Aquaculture (MFBEPCI) for accreditation to the GCF.
Review of Ongoing Projects: Both parties agreed on measures to accelerate implementation and maximize their impact.
New funding opportunities: Support for new programs aligned with the priorities of the National Development Plan (NDP), Chad Connect 2030, and Chad's revised Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
Financing: Mobilizing a minimum short-term investment of $100 million through a multi-year partnership.
