Fixed Term Risk and Compliance Manager Position

Introduction
We are a newly established innovative and large-scale investment platform designed to bolster food security across Africa. Our institution leverages a partnership model to channel capital into specialized investment funds and companies, prioritizing innovative and scalable agricultural solutions. This strategy addresses the critical gap between Africa's rapidly growing population and stagnating agricultural productivity. It responds to the significant existing market opportunity for approaches enabling and including private sector actors, as Africa’s agri-food sector worth $313 billion today is expected to grow significantly in the coming years.
We have the flexibility to invest in a wide range of transformative agri-food activities through five main windows: (i) direct investments in agri-food MSMEs; (ii) regional funds for territorialized value chains in specific landscapes such as tropical rainforests in the Congo Basin and coastal mangroves along Western Africa; (iii) investments in existing funds of funds with a track record in supporting startups and MSMEs in the agri-food system; (iv) dedicated country flagship funds; and (v) direct investments in flagship companies. Through these five windows, final beneficiaries will be agri-food MSMEs across the value chain, indirectly supporting also farmers and local communities.
We are seeking a Fixed Term Risk and Compliance Manager who will ensure that risks are properly identified, measured, monitored, reported and managed to drive the sustainability of institution.
Specific tasks will include:
Act as the primary point of contact for risk and compliance matters to internal and external stakeholders
Ensure operations adhere to the institution's standards, internal policies and regulations
Lead the development, review and update of risk related policies and ensure that these policies are in compliance with applicable regulations and the strategic imperatives of the institution
Drive the implementation of the overall risk strategy and policy and ensure risks taken by the institution are consistent with the Enterprise Risk Management framework and the risk strategy
Lead the implementation and monitoring of the Enterprise Risk Management framework, tools, practices, and policies to identify, measure, report, monitor and manage enterprise risks (investment and portfolio risks, liquidity and funding risks, regulatory risks, operational risks, etc.) across the institution
Lead the design and implementation of second level controls and proactively identify and implement internal control improvements to ensure that risks are effectively managed
Support the implementation of risk and compliance procedures, including Integrity Due Diligence (IDD), AML-CFT, Conflict of Interest etc.
Develop and update risk dashboards and risk reports to provide information, analyses and insights to the Senior Management and Board committees to enable the monitoring, mitigation and management of risks
Monitor adherence to investment guidelines and risk limits, prepare compliance and risk reports for Board meetings and provide guidance on regulatory and compliance matters
Support due diligence exercises related to investments into companies, Funds and Platforms undertaken by the institution
Respond to investor, Board and stakeholder IDD requests made of the institution and work closely with the investment teams in responding to IDD questions
Implement risk and compliance education and training to ensure Senior leadership and employees have adequate awareness and understanding of the overall risk strategy, the Enterprise Risk Management framework, other risk-related policies and internal control standards
Develop, review and enhance quantitative risk models to measure and monitor portfolio risks
Monitor portfolio performance, identifying trends in credit quality, losses, and early risk indicators
Conduct regular risk assessments and stress testing
Investigate compliance breaches and implement systems to correct and prevent future issues
Coordinate internal and external audits
Key Skills and Competencies
Proactive and self-directed, exercising sound judgement and accountability
Strong commercial awareness and judgement, with the ability to engage proactively with stakeholders as a trusted advisor
Track record of delivering high quality outcomes
Highly organised and able to manage complex workstreams and competing priorities
Strong understanding of credit underwriting principles, equity valuation, risk appetite frameworks, and portfolio risk management
Advanced data analysis and quantitative capabilities
Ability to interact directly and independently with the senior management of clients, financial and technical partners
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and ability to coach junior consultants
High standards of ethical behaviour, strong work ethic and integrity
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite and risk management tools, applications and platforms
Willingness to travel and geographic flexibility
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Ability to translate complex risk issues into clear recommendations. Fluency in French and other languages is strongly preferred
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Risk Management, Engineering, Economics or related discipline, alongside a Master’s degree.
Professional qualifications such as FRM, CRMP or equivalent is strongly preferred.
Minimum of 8 years’ in-depth experience as a risk management professional working in a fund, development finance institution, investment bank or advisory firm. Strong relationship with Africa, either by origin or work experience is highly preferred.
Experience in impact investing in Africa

A shortlist, comprising three to six consultants will be established according to the following criteria:
